COMMUNITY DEFENSE: New Civilian Security Units Launched in Har Nof and Beitar Illit

Two new Citizen Defenders units have been established in Har Nof and Beitar Illit, expanding grassroots emergency response capabilities within local communities.

The units are made up of licensed, trained volunteers – primarily local residents – who are prepared to respond in the critical moments before official security forces arrive. The initiative is being coordinated with local authorities and includes professional screening and advanced training programs.

Officials say the program reflects a growing push for community responsibility and preparedness amid ongoing security concerns.

“This is about responsibility – a community that protects itself is a strong community,” a spokesperson said.

Citizen Defenders continues to expand across Israel, with existing units already active in Jerusalem, Afula, and Beit She’an.

One Response

  1. 1, Based on the picture, the people shown are modern Orthodox (as we call them in America) or “Dati” (or Religous Zionists) as they say in Israel. Even if they were jobniks they served in the IDF and had serious training in modern weapons.
    2. While a small concealable weapon has uses, the terrorists in Israel tend to carry assault rifles (long barrel, relatively large bullets, and fully automatic with substantial clips).
    3. Handguns are not going to be all that useful against Hamas. However, if a future Israeli government prohibits gun ownership in nationalistic or religious settlements, in which case the ability to hide weapons becomes important (but would they really shoot IDF soldiers who are closing down West Bank settlements in order to win favor with the US).
