NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani is expected to unveil a major NYCHA housing plan Tuesday focused on repairing public housing, restoring vacant apartments, and building new housing on NYCHA-owned land.
• The plan would use the PACT program and the Public Housing Preservation Trust to help renovate 25,000 apartments, starting with developments in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
• Mamdani also wants to restore at least 4,500 vacant apartments, expand job training programs for residents, and increase resident involvement in housing decisions. NYCHA’s repair backlog is estimated at nearly $80 billion.
