U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces have launched strikes against Iran at the direction of President Donald Trump.

According to CENTCOM, the operation began at 5:00 PM ET and was carried out in response to what it described as Iran’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

CENTCOM called the strikes a “proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.”
