New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling for a new, uniform email retention policy for state leaders following criticism of his administration�s practice of purging all emails after 90 days.

The Democratic governor�s policy concerned government watchdogs and some lawmakers who said it was an affront to government transparency and accountability.

Cuomo�s office had said the policy dated back to former Gov. Eliot Spitzer�s administration, but Cuomo expanded it this year to cover other state agencies.

Cuomo�s top spokeswoman said Thursday night that the governor would meet with lawmakers, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli (dee-NAP�-oh-lee) to create a single email retention policy for all state officials.

Cuomo�s email troubles come as Hillary Rodham Clinton faces questions over her handling of email correspondence during her tenure as secretary of state.
