In his remarks to the Herzliya Conference, senior Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad stated, We must try to reach an agreement with Syria since we are on a crash course with them.

Gilad feels peace with Syria is doable, warning that we were already on the brink of a war in 2006, and the next time Hizbullah fires Syrian made rockets into Israel, we may be compelled to respond.

A true peace with Syria explained Gilad can weaken extremist factions and deflect some of the threats Israel is compelled to address daily. He believes we have nothing to lose since we are on a collision course.
