The Knesset voted down a bill authored by MK (Yesh Atid) Elazar Stern in its preliminary reading. The bill seeks to amend the state kashrus law to compel granting a hashgacha to a store that meets kosher requirements even if the store opens on Shabbos and Yomtov. The bill was defeated in a 43-36 vote.
Stern maintains there is no connection between kashrus and opening a store on Shabbos and Yomtov and therefore, he feels local religious councils must be compelled to grant a hashgacha to businesses that operate on Shabbos for as long as they meet kosher requirements. Stern feels rabbonim have been exceeding their authority by connecting shmiras Shabbos to granting a hashgacha and hopes his bill would change this reality.

Doesn’t a ???? ??? have a ??? of a non-Jew, and if so, don’t we have concerns of ????? ???”?, ???? ???, ???? ????? ???? ???”?, etc.? And what about ??? ????? ???? ???”? which also applies to fish, dairy, and baked items?
