Israeli Team Arrives In Johannesburg To Take Custody Of Rabbi Berland

berlandRabbi Eliezer Berland was supposed to board a plane for Israel earlier this week but due to technical issues, he did not board the plane. Rabbi Berland was supposed to be on a 1:00 AM flight to Israel but the Justice Minister did not sign the extradition papers so authorities could not hand him over to the Israeli team responsible for bringing him home. A number of chassidim and his attorney were on the plane, waiting for Rabbi Berland to arrive but he did not.

In the Shuvu Banim kehilla in Yerushalayim they expect Rabbi Bedrland will arrive on the next El Al flight from Johannesburg, this Thursday, 25 Iyar.

  1. A group of his chasidim are still trying to block the extradition which is, according to some sources, the reason that the Justice Minister didn’t sign the papers.

  2. Whatever opinion one has formed on the truthfulness of the allegations against Berland, its time for this circus to end and he be given the opportunity to respond to these charges in an Israeli court. The seemingly endless stories and photos of an elderly yid in chassideshe lvush and often wearing tallis/teffilin running from one country to another has created a tremendous chilul hashem. It only reaffirms many negative views of frum yidden as having no respect for the law. At least now, when he gets off the plan in EY, he can fully answer to his accusers and end this one and for all.

  3. I hope that the police officers that are presently watching and making sure that the arabs do not stab anyone, I hope that those police officers will not be transferred to the rabbi berland story.
