NYC: Cameras On Street Sweepers May Reportedly Catch Parking Scofflaws

Street sweepers could soon be keeping a look out for parking scofflaws.

According to the New York Times, the city is asking the state for permission to install cameras on street sweepers to help catch people breaking alternate side parking rules.

A bill before the state legislature would allow the city to use the cameras to record the license plates of illegally parked cars.

The bill calls for permission to put cameras on a limited number of sweepers as a pilot program in 25 of the city’s 59 community districts.

  1. This is absurd. How can a camera differentiate between a parked car & a car with the driver sitting in it which is perfectly legal?
