UPDATED – Mastermind in Japanese Drug Case Arrested in Yerushalayim

arrest.jpgUPDATE BELOW: One suspects was arrested in Yerushalayim on Sunday, apparently in connection with the drug case that has left three yeshiva bochrim behind bars in Japan.

Three bochrim, residents of Yerushalayim and Bnei Brak were imprisoned in Japan after authorities found drugs in a double-walled suitcase they were carrying. The boys, who were duped into unknowingly becoming drug couriers, are standing trial in Japan. Authorities are unwilling to show leniency due to the amount of drugs found in their possession. [See YWN article HERE]

It appears that as the case advances in Japan, police in Israel have been compelled to arrest suspects in Israel believed linked to the case.

Early Sunday morning, detectives from Tel Aviv appeared in the Orange Cell Phone Company’s main Jerusalem center in Givat Shaul disguised as service representatives. One employee reports that suddenly, six men jumped a large male, placing him in handcuffs and removing him from the area.

The suspect was remanded until Sunday by the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

It is possible that there will be additional arrests in the coming days.

UPDATED INFORMATION: YWN has learned that two suspects have been taken into custody in the Japan drug case, not one as was reported earlier. They were arrested on Sunday.

Bentzion Miller and Yisrael Eisenbach, residents of Yerushalayim, were nabbed by Tel Aviv detectives on Sunday (15 Feb). Police presented the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court with evidence pointing to the fact that Miller may have been the mastermind in the case, extending his remand for one week. The court on Monday extended the remand of Eisenbach for 48 hours.

Police add that they believe the two filled the suitcases carried by the yeshiva bochrim with 90,000 ecstasy pills. Both Eisenbach and Miller are affiliated with the chareidi community.

No additional information is available at this time.

  1. bh!! let that man get the WORST punishment for torturing these boys. finally the boys can reunite with their family and friends!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. While I’m happy that there might be a break in the case for the 3 bochurim…I am surprised that YWN is printing the names of 2 people ACCUSED of wrongdoing. This is a dangerous departure from their normal procedures. Let us hope that the 3 boys receive their yishua..and that these two accused don’t make more of o chilul hashem.

  3. police in Israel have been compelled to arrest suspects in Israel believed linked to the case.*****
Who compelled them to arrest suspects?
Why weren’t these suspects arrested right after the smuggling? Will it help the case of the bochurim if or when a suspect is arraigned? Who is prosecute the suspect-Japan or Israel?

  4. I don’t understand how you can publish the names of frum people “accused” of this horrific crime. How can you be sure of their guilt? There are halochos that govern such things and until you are sure that you are halachically permitted to print the names please remove them or publish the name of a poisek who says you can publicize their names. The lack of loshon horoh is what separates YWN from other websites you should try to live up to that image.

  5. jphone, I’d say this is a “prisoner exchange” in the interest of the Israeli people as opposed to releasing terrorists for “peace”.

  6. #10 You guys speak such garbage. Maybe you should go and learn Hilchos Loshon Hora. You go and ask your Rav,explain the exact situation and Im sure the names of these Reshoim should be advertised.Sometimes it is permissable to use your on head!!!!!!

  7. I will ditto those who are questioning the halachic basis of publicizing the names at this point. To do so would be questionable even if it were proven that tehy were the culprit as lashon hara is even when true. There is no toeles at all in knowing their names, as opposed to various abusers for which there is. This is especially so considering that,at this point, they are only suspects in an ongoing investigation and haven’t even been charged. In the US, their names probably wouldn’t have even been LEAKED.

  8. the rabbi of benie brak has paskened thatthose involved in sending these boys can be named and they can be rodef them

this is such a crime stop worrying about the l;oshon hora and worry about the kids unknowingly duped

  9. MEMUNUFSHECH: if these 2 people are innocent then its not loshon hora & if they are the culprits it’s loshon hora with a toeles, the way things go they may be released and do it again.

  10. #10 “FRUM PEOPLE” are u nuts, Rodfim, rudtzschim oisvurfs mushchisim, disguised as descent people, much lower than goyim they are, b/c they are m’challel Hashem.

  11. To all of you yutzes who so piously state that it is forbidden to publicize the name of the two people who gave those suitcases to the three bochurim because it is loshon hora; go tell that to the three mothers who wait for their sons to come out of jail.

  12. Klal Yisroel – whats happening to us? Be Mispallel that these boys in Japan are sent home. It is ALL in the hands of Hashem.

There is no evidence or reason to believe that even with suspects in hand the boys in Japan will be released. There is no Posek yet who has said that even if the only way to get the boys out is by delivering other suspects that it would be permissible (As much as we all want to believe it is obvious – it is not!).

I am saddened to see that YW has so many Hilchos Loshon Hora “poskim” in these comments. I am not one nor am I to say who is. All I try to do is learn from the daily companion printed and live by the suggestion / guideline printed that before doing or saying something (in this case listing names) think how you would feel if that person was your own child / mother / father / brother or sister. If it was, you would not want the name mentioned and that is how you can be sure it is Loshon Hora.

Either way, the only possible reason to share this story must be to remind us to be Mispallel. other than that is is nothing more then sensationalism journalism. And even if that sells and brings readers, it is still wrong!

  13. All of you who are talking about toeles, please explain what it is. Without knowing any names, you shouldn’t ever take a package from someone at the airport just because they look frum. Knowing their names is no toeles at all. publishing their names won’t get the bochurim back a second quicker, what does this have to do with their mothers waiting? I will very happily tell their mother that the zchus of keeping to the halacha will help her son, and not keeping it will only hurt. If it is not true then it is not lashon hara, it is WORSE! I cannot vouch for what a vague “Rabbi of Bnei Brak”, whoever he is, said, but if they weren’t even charged and are currently injailwhat exactly is the heter? These reasons that “feel bad for the mother” and “they are terrible” is only pesach lchatas rovetz. If they were proven to be mchaliley shabbos bifarhesya, then it would be mutar, but I havwn’t yet seen a reason to say that about these uncharged peoplle.

  14. #26 lechoyrush you are right about publishing the names of the 2 ‘alleged’ mastermind. i am choyzer on my MEMUNUFSHECH. Right now we must be mispallel the the 3 boys be released bkuroyv mamesh!
Yoel Zev ben Mirel Reesa Chava; Yaakov Yosef ben Raizel; and Yosef ben Ita Rivka.

  15. #10 & 25 (same person) – perhaps you need professional help. Hatred has no place in a Yid. Halochos are halochos and we MUST FOLLOW THEM. And yes, following them will be the only way to get them out. the same mouth that speaks Loshon Hora will never be the same mouth that Teffilos are answered from. So promote doing the right thing and then we stand a chance to have our Teffilos answered,

….and by the way, I would bet that the mothers of these three boys only want their sons back and are not asking to destroy another yids (and his extended families) life.

  16. I will agree with all those who say that we should not publish the names of people. It is Loshon Hora if it is true and it is Motzei Shem Ra if it is not. YWN is a respected site unlike the other one we all know. While it is, a tragedy for those boys to be in prison in Japan, let us first make sure that they have the right people caught. Nevertheless, the Israeli government should request the Japanese government to not sentence those boys. I think that a government can make such a request.
Let us not judge anyone and let us not be judges by the Supreme judge of all.

  17. Eicho …

How does this come about? Ppl from frumer homes should become drug dealers? How low have we stumbled?
Raboisai we can’t take for granted anymore our innocence and purity! “Beekaish Yakov laishev beshalva, miyad umad olov rukzoi shel Yoisef.”
We cannot run on autopilot anymore. Let’s share our ideas of how to keep ourselves and the next generations intact.
    Hashem Yazor

  18. #12 and all those who talk about rodfim, I wonder if any of you ever learned hilchos LH, because there is absolutely no heter to publicize their names. If it helps the boys then maybe you could reveal it to the japanese- not to the whole world.

  19. In response to those who think it’s Loshon Horah, YWN did not say that these men are guilty, they just reported that they were arrested. BTW it doesn’t sound like any of you ever learned Chafetz chaim or Shemiras Halashon

  20. Chaverim. The time has come for klal yisroel to organize SUSTAINED, worldwide demonstrations for the Japanese. While our tefilas are important, we also need to do avodah be’poel ie. actual physical work, to accomplish the goal of freeing the yeshiva bochurim. The Japanese judge accused prisoners by military tribunal, not by jury (so prisoners do not get fair treatment). Their prison system evolved from the Japanese prisoner camps in World War II. It’s historical fact that while the Nazis were horrible, the Japanese were 100 times as barbaric and cruel to their prisoners. They consider themselves superior to the rest of the world, but are a barbaric nation. By worldwide demonstrations and protests, and if necessary exposing the world to the cruel, true face of Japan; boycott of Japanese products etc., they WILL LET THE bochurim go. NU?? ‘Im loy achshov, amoysai’- i.e. If not now, then when? When the boys chas v’cholila; become like ‘vegetables’ and are permanently damaged, from their treatment in Japan?
