I’ve seen it. I also saw people handing out flyers in the train station, and they look like J for J people.

Mr. Doomsday is part of a larger “church”. Just google Harold Camping. No, he isn’t predicting any fires, just an earthquake. 6pm., but dont hold him to the time, he is only reasonably sure of the time, but the date and what will happen he is certainly sure. From the cnnmoney article about him, the writer seems to imply (it’s what I infer from the article and the way it is written and the things it focuses on) that Mr. Camping will abscond with the church money. According to their IRS filing, they get on avg 18 million dollars a year in donations and account for 8-10 million in expenses.

CNN has an interview with one of the employees of this “church”. She says 80% of the employees think he is insane and they are planning to show up to work Monday, like always. As a secretary, she has scheduled numerous appointments and meetings for company employees for next week and beyond.
Yeah, I heard about it. I understand who’s doing it but where are there warped ideas from. Why May 21 and not June 2 or s/t. Why an earthquake? It’s totally crazy, but how can they backup what they are saying? They have no reasoning.

Predicting when the world will end is an old game. There was some guy about 150 years ago who predicted it 4 times (all of them wrong) What was amazing was that after the 3rd date came and went he still had some followers.
The technical term for this is “Eschatology” for anyone who may care.
Zach: If we’re thinking of the same guy, he still does. They’re called Jeh*vah’s witlesses. 😉 I don’t like using the word “eschatology” for these nutjobs because I’ve most often seen it in connection with the nevi’im achronim and the aggada about our Mashiach.

Rev. Camping previously predicted the end of the world for October 1994.
Today’s NY Times has an article about some of these people and another about a man who made similiar predictions years ago. I assume that those behind the May 21st end of the world will makes the rounds of the talk shows beginning May 22.
Look, they’re done no harm and contributed to the economy with the ads.
The only thing happening on May 21st is me going to shul and comming home for a nice lunch…There will also be sleeping, walking and learning mixed in…
1010 Wins in NY interviewed a believer who stated he stopped paying his utility bills among other things. The reporter asked him if he could come back sunday morning for a follow up and the guy told him “not sure where I will be that day”. If you are in or near NYC tune in to 94.7 FM you get to hear mr camping.
