asdfghjkl – every year one of the 4 hosting schools (toronto, baltimore, detroit, cleveland – montreal used to host but i don’t think they do anymore, so now they just skip a year) has a convention some time in late fall/early winter, it is over a shabbos and every bais yaakov across north america send some girls in for the shabbos. including the whole bais yaakov toronto, i think there were about 750 girls there this year. i was just wondering if anyone had anything to say about it …. feel free to post your comments!

why do you want to know about Convention? are you planning one? I’m sure it was wonderful/amazing/fantastic like always.

I think any negative comments would be Loshon hara, as they are unproductive unless addressed to the principals/heads, who all worked VERY VERY hard!

Convention is truly an inspiring, amazing, unforgettable experience, as girls from all over North America come togther for a weekend (Thurs-Sun) of shiurim, trips, new friendships, presentations, kumzitz, fun, discussions, schmoozes, etc!!! It is especially special for girls from small towns, who don’t often get to be with so many frum girls. The entire hosting school works together to plan this. countless hours go onto it, as talents not used in the classroom are brought out. Girls make friends with those in other classes/grades that they may not really had anything to do with otherwise. It is the best!!!!

(BTW, my convention was several conventions ago!)

I went to convention in Toronto – 20 years ago!! Yes, I still have wonderful memories about it. The girls worked really hard. They put on wonderful productions. It you are fortunate enough to go, it is a wonderful experiance. You get to meet other girls from Bais Yaacovs from all over.

I almost went to the BY convention when I was in HS. My school isn’t a Bais Yaakov, but they participate anyway.

“we will keep…as we enjoy and we experience, a meaningful weekend with lessons so deep.” Remember the kumzitz at the Cinesphere? and how COLD it was! Amazing how we packed 600 girls into that gym on Thursday night. The school has another wing now.

    Anyone else who was there?

squeak- you crack me up… this whole topic cracks me up. You familiar with the 10 months after the girls come home from camp? camp theme songs become shabbos zmiros

    #633862

5 girls from my class went, the rest didn’t wanna go lol! NOT the type…but they loved it. Its funny bc only those 5 girls ever went to sleepaway camp, the rest of us would never

I think it’s a “had to be there” kind of thing. A bais yaakov high school, and definately overnight camps, produce a deep feeling of achdus and belonging. (usually)

Yes, there ARE many songs, productions and plays, all of which get many/all involved. So the songs and tha music stay with us, in our hearts (not to be too mushy), as a true Jewish song should. (“A Jewish song of any kind is only precious – if and when – it brings us closer to Hashem” – Abie Rotenberg). But a bigger reason, i think, is that the songs take us back to those teenage years of fun, friends and companionship; the memories are linked with the tunes. So sing and enjoy! (even 20 years later!)
