That’s not soo bad cofeefan! considering the issues you had these past couple of weeks its really not terrible. I would say that for this A1C it means you had very good control except for that time when u went crazy high and couldnt control it which wasnt your fault. If u wouldnt have had that episode you probably wld have remained in the 6’s. (dont quote me though im no medical expert just a fellow D)

Dont be so harsh on yourself PLEASE!

I know you really wanna get your numbers down so just keep pushing on and you’ll have great numbers next visit iyh!!

btw Did you give it to your doc for not responding to your emergency??

i’m not upset at the 7.3 i was upset that i worked so hard to finally get it to the 6.8 and then i lost control and it went up! my personality is just i dont like not being able to control things! now i have to just stand up brush it off and start to try again….. and btw allsgr8- i was impresed with myself too that help my tongue! it’s sooo not my type lol!

A lot of people have difficulty controling their tongue- what goes into their mouth (carbs) and what comes out. It’s much easier to control others, than themselves.

My daughter, age 12, was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I have read these posts, and really appreciate the information here.

Aside from “Friends With Diabetes”, is anyone aware of any newsletters, etc. geared towards teenage girls with diabetes?

    Thanks!

csilver- sorry dont know of any other publications.. I hope your daughter is doing well. Let us know if we can be of any help! This thread has been pretty quiet lately but it gets busy when you post questions 🙂

simcha- YES!! i cant figure out my insulin ratio for a jelly donut!! its so annoying! Whats yours?

    #979980

NO insulin ratio needed! Just skip the whole idea!

i am craving a custard dounut!! how much insulin do you think it needs???

csilver- i don’t know of any other literature either i’m sorry but we are all here to help if you need! a lot of us are young girls too (i was 11 when diagnosed) so we know exactly how your daughter feels and in my opinion no publication can ever be as useful as personal first hand experiences…

simcha- did you mean to skip the donut or the insulin? lol..from what you’ve posted in the past I assume you mean the insulin but I hope not!

    #979983

Hey Cofeefan! By now im sure you’ve long eaten the custard donut but i would say it has about 60 carbs in it (that would mean 6 units for me!)

    #979984

I meant skip the donuts;) So far I only used them for lows, not so crazy over them, I’ll take a good piece of cake ne day better than a donut!!!

    #979985

everyone should be proud of me…. i didnt have the dounut…. (yet…. i still have 3 days right?!?!)

but if i dod have i would eat half… that way its not the full carbs (and calories….) but i still get my dounut…. so you would say that would be like 30-40 carbs right?

    #979986

I doubt doughnuts have more than 30-35 carbs in each. I did a search on a couple of sites. I would add no more than 10 to the jelly vs the custard. If your making your own, calorie count has a great carb counting tool for your own recipes.

I’ve been running high the last few days plus i’m coming down with a cold. I’m high anyway so I might as well over-indulge. I’ll deal with the extra lbs and #’s after Chanukah, hopefully things will settle by then…

    #979987

so i had my share of donuts this chanuka and i had to correct afterward no matter how much insulin i gave myself! Too bad 🙁 I guess a high here and there is okay althoughi am really trying hard to have good numbers these days…

allsgr8- i know exactly what you mean and sometimes we need to eat someting we want in order not to feel resentful…. (i finally had my dounut lol)

i just got the CGMS today is the first day i wore it… it confuses me…… looking at the graph and how its all over the place gets me sooo nervous!!!! any advice?

CF- congrats on eating the donuts!! 🙂

I dont have the CGM but i would love to hear about it so that eventually when i decide to get my pump and CGM ill know what to expect!

cof, congrats! Whats confusing, your numbers or the accuracy? If it’s your numbers then welcome to the world of visibility. Seeing the actual problems will really help correcting and fine tuning everything and hopefully improve control:)

    #979991

both the accuracy and numbers itself are confusing me…..

for example: on the reciever it said 91 but i tested regular and it was 146. but now on the reciever it says 72 and it was 87 on the regular meter…..

but what is really confusing me is this: i woke up with gr8 numbers (90-110)and that lasted all morning and then i go to eat lunch at around 1:15 pm with a level of 127. i give insulin accordance to what i was eating (a salad with tuna and ww pita– not alot of carbs) then my BS levels start to go up…. higher and higher till it reached 192 then it went down again to 72. is that normal? like the carbs went into my blood and then the insulin took affect? and since it’s the first time i actually see the trends (as opposed to just the test before and 2 hours later) i’m getting confused? or am i doing something wrong? do you understand my questions?

    #979992

Cofeffan- makes perfect sense to me! r numbers are always like that except that we dont get to watch the numbers go up and down..thats where the whole glycemic index comes in. Foods that are lower on the GI will raise your blood sugars at a slower rate and you wont see as much of a surge and then a drop as opposed to eating lets say candy which is very high in on GI; there you’ll see a big surge and then a quick drop when insulin kicks in…

Basically, sounds like the CGM is a great invention but can also make u crazy! 🙂

(I guess thats why with regular finger sticks ur not supposed to check urself until at least 2 hours after a meal)

it’s making me nuts!!! like it’s 189 now!! i don’t know if i shold correct or not!! i don’t think i can wear it all the time… i’d go nuts!!!

speaking of which….. think i could use it on shabbos? what do you guys do about all your the stuff on shabbos??( i think thats a topic we haven’t discussed yet…..)
