squeak, if you haven’t got affluence you haven’t got many options to considering yourself upper class 😉

I, on the other hand… ha just kidding – i don’t have a personal penny to my name or a high school diploma. however did i become upper class?? bar mitzva money??

when is america gonna learn to stop butting in to everyone else’s business?? <<

I don’t like the fact that we fought in Bosnia, Korea and g-d knows where else on this earth. But- that’s the responsibility that comes along with being a world power.

Does everyone realize that this entire topic is regarding WHERE TO PUT THE BLAME. I don’t even have a good adjective for this…

    mod39-

now- did I or did I not once ask if there is such a thing as an English/American interchangeable dictionary. I knew we’d bump in to such a problem somewhere along the way…

    #642941

Moish, Maybe they are trying to ‘make-up’ for the fact that they stayed out of WWII for so long. Not too sure you were happy about them staying out of that one

you know the joke that “a smart woman makes her husband think he’s the boss?”

it’s not so funny here but i think the arab countries are so smart they let america think they’re in charge. i could be wrong.

squeak, that humor (if you can call it that) has got to go.

oh and areivim, you forgot one biggie: Vietman.

My inlaws spent time in England, when my shver was doing a fellowship there. So they “brought back” some English phrases. I once tried to piece them all together. Such as “We’ll take the baby out in the push-chair with a dummy in his mouth and a clean nappy on his bum…”

Moish, I only just saw your post from yesterday. I completely disagree with you – a high degree of education does equate to a high social status, so I am upper class even though I am not affluent (and I do not have economic status). And this status cannot be taken away from me, unlike the wheel of fortune…

a communist yid vs. a republican goy, lets measure this out

    1) I am a yid, so obviously I am biased towards moish

    2) I am extremely anti-commie, and I am leaving the US because the stupid US public voted a communist as president…

    3) America is a goyishe state, why’d a frum yid wanna govern it?!

    4) I am a Republican

    5) moish what are you? a republican, a , etc?

For good reason a president can’t be younger than 35…

moish, to me you will always have a broken leg, since you can’t change. The mods won’t let me say any more than that.

squeak, ever read “the kid who ran for president?” followed by “the kid who became president.”

    ANYTHING’S possible.

david, you regarding question #5 – i’m a communist. it’s its own political party.

but you said what i was looking for. (mod this wasn’t really off topic!)

    1) I am a yid, so obviously I am biased towards moish

all you anti-obama/pro bush people, it’s only because you are frum and frum people look at what they think they are supposed to think and do and state that opinion. don’t you use your own head? is it the end of the world if you have to face the fact that Bush was the WORST president we’ve had in a long while?? so what if he’s republican? he can still be an idiot.

thanks for all your help 😉

ames, it’s a joke. i’m not communist. (how can i be? my dad’s a lawyer.) but i do see why socialism has positive aspects…

    #642977

so what? people are always arguing what they think is right and won’t change their minds. there’s no such thing as “new facts = new results.” no matter what the new facts are, they’re sticking to their opinion. you know that. so yeah, you’ll get people who love obama just because they are democrats. same thing.

in general, how many of you would have voted obama if your rov said to?

i’m not saying i wouldn’t, but i was just making a point how people just follow the trend and don’t think for themselves. even David was considering voting for me, a communist, just because i’m a fellow yid.

(and no, i’m not communist. i used it to prove a point.)

just saying how people don’t think for themselves too often. it’s all over the CR. and i’m sure in the rest of your life too.

i hear you. but everyone is just repeating what’s drilled into them. everyone has something else drilled in. when was the last time you saw two people agree on something AND ADMIT IT?? (i don’t mean little things. i mean long, drawn out issues that they’ve been arguing for weeks.)

moish your not a communist? of course I’ll vote for you, youre not a communist, a fellow yid, what more could one want from a president? (if you are a frum yid of course, if you would be a goy, you wouldn’t care about moish being a yid or not, but still not being a communsit is good, even for a goy.)

    squeak:

What exactly is the definition of “high social status”?

Is not a Jew by definition of a high social status? (Presuming he doesn’t blow it.)

Is economic status another option of attaining “high social status”, to education?

How much education/affluence meets its requirements?

What is the benefit of attaining “high social status”?

HoB, I will address your questions one by one.

    1) Social status is where one stands in relation to other people within a society. Not Webster’s, but I’m sure you could look it up yourself. You’re being petty; you know what social status is. You just don’t like it, and you have a point.

    2) A Jew should certainly view himself as being upper crust by that merit alone. See the “Why Yidden are Best” thread.

    3) Yes. If you ask what upper class means, most people will say it means rich. Really it means advantaged (relative to other human beings). My point was that I consider myself upper class because of my educational achievements. Your point that I should consider myself such because I am a Jew is correct and well taken. A person can consider themselves upper class by any factor that sets them apart from others (i.e. have-nots). It is unfortunate that money is so universally respected that it is the first thing the mind thinks of when discussing social class.

    4) As much as it takes to be able to mingle, if you know what I mean. People generally define their own place in society by how they perceive themselves.

    5) I don’t know. It ranges from “no benefit” at all to being the reason for a person to get up in the morning. As I said, it is what you make of it. Does mingling with other folks of your level and stepping on those below you make you feel worthwhile? Then your status is meaningful to you. To me, it is just a fact. I value the knowledge and experience that I have, but I don’t see it as a way to set myself apart from others. On the contrary, I am often intimidated by those who see it that way.

SammyJoe- You are right I read the Current Recession took on fruition from November of 2007, which was clearly during the administration of President Bush. With so many posters feeling the effects of an ailing economy, I am amazed at the loyalty and approval rating of the former President.
