I asked this question in a different thread and did not receive a response,

Why do some people pronounce all Tav’s with the hard sound “t” and never use the “s” sound. As far as I remember (correct me if I am wrong) Tav is pronounced /t/ when there is a Dagesh Kal in it and pronounced /s/ when there is not. It’s possible that I’m wrong but I think that there is no Dagesh in the Tav in the words kesuba, Shabbos, Mitzvosai (AKA Ketuba, Shabbat, Mitzvotai) just some words I came across recently.

I know this is the Israeli accent but that is not the correct havara (at least by ashkenazim.

    Anyone?

You have answered your own question. Tada. It is not the correct havara for askenazim, but it is for sefardim. They say Ketuba, Shabbat, Misvotai, etc.

Israel decided to go with the sefardic accent for Modern Hebrew so you hear that pronounciation a lot, even from Askenazim (though not in tefilla).

    squeak,

Thanks for your response. I am aware that Israel uses the sfardy havara for the language. But why do American, usually the more modern, schools use that havara? I believe they use it at all times, to learn chumash etc. Are they trying to teach the hebrew language as opposed to Lashon Kodesh?

Anon for this and Brooklyn 19 are both right. THANK you, Brooklyn 19 for posting the poem. It is as beautiful now as it was in my memory. Also, thanks to Anon, because I also loved the other poem. I am recalling it even as I am typing. Frost was a wonderful poet. I remember having to memorize them both and recite them in class (with expression), as part of our final grade. My teacher really liked my interpretation, and gave me an A+ (I am not meaning to brag, reading poetry with feeling was always an ability with which I was blessed). I likewise loved Shakespeare.

I can’t say for sure, but I think that the answer is yes. In my mind, MO and Zionism go hand-in-hand (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). Therefore, they have adopted Modern Hebrew as a replacement for Loshon Hakodesh.

i dunno. i can’t type words and purposely misspell them. it would take forever for me to do what you did. i’d have to go back and switch all the “e”s to “i”s and vice versa…

spell check doesn’t proofread, though. you gotta do it yourself. and the grammar check is totally unreliable.
