Does anyone know about the Halacha that you shouldn’t sleep with your head to the door or feet?

22oldgold- I don’t know if this was a joke or not, but when I was little and my siblings told me not to sleep with my head to the door it was because in case there is an intruder/muderer, the first thing that he comes in cintact with should not be your head!

Gold, I believe it’s from Rav Yehuda Hachasid. Being that when they take a mais out of the room it is laying down, head first out the door. If anyone has a more clear answer, I’ll step aside.

Thanks, so next question, if the head is facing the door but the bed is not totally in line with the door, is that the same thing. Like the head is facing the wall.

Is it a man thing to make Cholent or something? and a boy thing to make Latkes?

what does this mean? like is it typical for a man to make it? b/c technically whoever wants to can make it, right? & if ur asking who is supposed to, i think the minhagim are eating the foods, not who makes them

im not a big fan of the whole cutesy mishloach manot thing. i think its the nicest is just to make sure the food that you’re giving tastes good (dont know abt u, but i appreciate getting that stuff the most 🙂 ) & is wrapped up nicely. it doesnt NEED to fit into a fancy theme and all that, really.

How about a very practical one? Like “Household staples” – you put in juice, milk, eggs, bread…

syrian, if it’s a leased car you may as well put regular. it might not be the best thing for your car in the long run (depending on the make) but who cares?

    and i don’t even drive… yet!

    #1079317

Asdfghjkl: ha thanx my daddy says use silver (middle) but the gas station guy yelled at me and called me cheap girl!!!!

Moish: ha that’s funny u said that bc my mom told me that too! She said its going back in a year n a half just use regular but my dads like NO WAY!!!!! So ill just stick wit silver

why would someone not tell their friends their real name? (im not talking about online here. their regular friends that they see in person)

i have been puzzled by this for way too long & it would be great if someone could give me a possible explanation for this type of thing!

    #1079325

an open book-i never heard of that? thats the weirdest thing u meet s/o and ask them their name and they say sara cohen and not rochel gold? thats weird

no sorry. its like, they are called by a different name (like a normal nickname, 2nd name, english name, whatever, it doesnt matter the specifics) but they refuse to tell anyone including close friends their real first name. for several years already!

this bugs me to no end! i dont understand why they do this

an open book: the only time i can imagine is if they have a name like shmerel berel pheifenheiger or something so they may rather say their name is yaakov moskowitz

but otherwise i never heard of someone doing that

    #1079332

Ohh I understand!!!!! Her friend has a name that she’s embarrased of, eith its english or its just one that she’s very embarrased by so therefore she is called ‘sarah cohen’ by everyone…

    ok ok sorry its unclear.

its something like that, but the last name is known. its just the 1st name they wont tell.

myshadow: b/c they are always called by a nickname

teen: i know 1 (one) person like this. thats all.

i agree that its a little crazy. thanx u guys r reassuring me that im not weird for thinking this is not normal.

    #1079336

An open book: yeah I new u meant only the first name. Like I know someone who was stephanie and changed to chana but that’s different bc everyone new she was stephanie

syriansephardi: ok, i was just trying to be clear, since that was the recent complaint. i guess is like that but this person has been called by the nickname their whole life (im pretty sure). only their family knows the real name, nobody else that i know of.

    #1079338

So why would the parents name the child that? Out of respect for a grandparent or something?

an open book: is it like some one being called mickey, cookie, or lolly??? and everyone who know them calls them that, but no one really knows why or how they ever got a name like??? seems strange to me from the way you described it!!!

    #1079340

an open book–i always thought that the reason was bec when they were little their siblings couldn’t pronounce their names correctly and called them something else and it stuck…

coke- i have that in my fam, but the friends not to know the real name at all??

    #1079342

no they know your name….but i guess an open book knows an exception

let me just say, im so glad i have all these to answer, now i really feel part of the cr 🙂

syriansephardi: yes, they were named after someone

asdfghjkl: no, its a normal nickname, like “mimi” or “al”, which is a regular name but could be different real names.

ames: i don’t think about this all the time, but when it comes up, i really wonder. because i am a curious person who likes to understand the world around me, especially the things/ppl i care about. and this is my friend, who refuses to tell me or anyone else a simple thing that theres no apparent reason to rly keep from at least a few ppl. & i feel like they dont trust even their friends. unless they have an actual reason they dont want to tell, which i was trying to find out.

coke not pepsi: no, this is a normal nickname, see what i said to asdfghjkl

areivimzehlazeh: yeah, they just don’t tell anyone, and told the family not to tell either if asked. isn’t that weird?

ames: it could be. but not even tell close friends? i mean, i hope nobody thinks i would tease them about their name. i never would! and i dont think i give the impression that i would, im very careful to spell/pronounce ppl’s names how they do bec it always bothers me when ppl misspell mine (it happens often)

we didnt even know at first that they had a different name but then they told us, but wouldnt say what it was. it was a big thing at first, and still is a lil, but only bec they made a big deal of not telling, so ppl wondered.

haha that was funny since u dont know the whole situation. yeah, no, im like 95% sure that is not the case (though u never know!)

i try, so hard, but like what i said on the OTHER other thread (working on 1 middah), it bothers me so it sort of floats around in the back of my mind but never totally leaves 🙁 i wish i could not care but i do.

    #1079346

An open book: u were always a part of the cr 🙂

And if u realllllyyy wanna find out, u can! Check her passport or lisence or somethin!
