I volunteer for one of the Chessed organizations here. This past week, they asked me to do two errands for them. I did the first one. I was driving peacefully from Point A to Point B.

I’m not quite sure what happened, but the next thing I knew there was a car coming at me. I tried to brake and swerve. Too late.

    The screech of scraping metal.

    The tinkle of shattering glass.

The squeal of tires on a wet roadway.

I felt myself being thrown forward in my seat.

I saw nothing. I felt nothing.

After letting out my breath, I looked around. Lights. Sirens. Policemen. A lot of people. A fire truck? Where’s the fire? A man in a blue uniform standing at my window. What was he saying?

A few deep breaths later, I collected myself enough to roll down my window to speak to the paramedic.

“Are you ok? Does anything hurt you?”

Oh, so that’s what he wanted from me. “Um, I…I think I’m ok. Thanks.” Those were my words, but my racing heart, clammy palms, and trembling body told me otherwise.

The shards of glass, scraps of metal, and wires surrounding me told me that I had to have been seriously injured. My car is nearly totaled, how could I be ok? Fingers, toes, back, neck. They all moved when and where I told them to. No visible blood. Could it be? I’m really fine?

“A miracle that a person could walk outta this wreck alive and unhurt.” The words of Officer Kwieczki (I think that’s his name.)

A miracle? Yes. And one that I would like to publicize. One tiny scrape on my hand that looks like it’s going to leave a scar. Good. I like it there. I want a reminder of the miracle that Hashem did for me as I was on the way from one mitzva to another.

Yes, mitzvos do have the power to protect you.

mepal, thanx for defending me. I wasn’t even going to answer. I was NOT texting and it was NOT my fault.

Thanks, everyone, for the good wishes.

Anonymiss, I do not know what to say. B”H, is the only thing that comes to mind. It is a neis galui, mamesh. I am really glad you weren’t hurt. A tiny scar is a small price to pay for a miracle.

Oomis, I don’t look at my scar as a price that I paid for a miracle.

You know when you go on a trip, how the souvenir shop is of utmost importance? It’s crucial to purchase a little keychain that says Niagara Falls or Disney World or whatever on it, regardless of the fact that owning the keychain will require you to leave behind about $10, right? Now you’ll always have a tangible reminder that I was there!

That’s my scar, it’s a souvenir. So I had to leave $10 (or my unblemished hand) in the “souvenir shop.” Who cares? As long as I have my souvenir aka scar, that serves as my constant reminder that I was there!

Glad that you are ok, thank God for that.

Personally I would definitely bentch gomel.

The term “ainan nizokin” refers to demons (shaidim),and not to terrestrial objects.

First of all anonymisss: B”H you’re ok!

I also had a Neis with a terrible car accident,

the car was totaled, I B”H walked out w/o a scratch!

    onlyemes:

“The term “ainan nizokin” refers to demons (shaidim),and not to terrestrial objects.”

No offense but that questionable, as the gemara itself brings a case

that a person was harmed (died) not by demons(Mazikim) to question the term

    Shluchei Mitzvah Ainon Nizoikim!

so please tell me this isn’t your own p’shat!

    mepal: it’s Nizoikim

The only problem with publishing it now, even with a name change, is that people who really know me will also know that I’m anonymisss here. Hmmm…

areivim, it definitely gave me a different perspective. I hope to keep it, it’s so easy to forget these things.

Great story. It was miraculous that HaShem saved you from harm in the accident. But (to paraphrase Rav Noach Weinberg z”tl) who do you think put you in the path of the oncoming car?

dd, 100%. And saved me from harm. It was no coincidence that I was in an accident in the first place.

Depends to whom and depends if it will increase emuna (as this does) or whether it may be questioned and mocked by scoffers.

I have a story that I share only with close friends, either via a private webpage or on the anniversary of its occurrence as it involves private information and was not seen as a ness/mofes by the person who was really saved by it (I just had the zechus to be a shaliach).

    No, I won’t tell it here :).

ames: It’s always a Mitzvah to publicize a Chesed & Neis that

    Hashem did with you.

    1)It shows you appreciate it.

    2)It makes a Kiddush Hashem.

3)Awakens people love for HB”H (when one relates miracles he does for his nation)

How many Chasadim Does HB”H do with all of us on a daily (every second) basis

    which we aren’t worthy of.

just don’t relate it to ppl in a boasting way

relate it in joyous humble way.

The mekatrigim will complain if you advertise or not. (that’s their job)

We just have 2 show appreciation

& in our hearts know we weren’t worthy.
