Soft, smooth vanilla ice cream enrobed in a luscious chocolatey coating, covered in rich caramel sauce. 🙂

speaking of ice cream. i am asking everyone to please pay close attention to the labels on some of the frozen desserts that are sold in our heimishe stores.

there are a few items that look exactly alike but one is pareve and one is dairy.

of course the designation of pareve and dairy are so small you need glasses to read it.

an example of waht i am talking about is the cute little chipwiches and mini ice cream cones inthe clear plastic boxes.

i made the mistake once and even offered some to friends and when i realized what i did i felt awful.

    Cold Stone Creamery

Not C”Y according to common usage of the term. (Yes, technically according to R’ Moshe, the heter is that it’s considered C”Y.)

My family loves the Nok Out bars (chocolate – reg. size w/nuts, mini plain).

Max and Minas (do they still have CY? I haven’t been there for years).

Otherwise I’ll take whatever the store has, and consider myself lucky to have found some.

Shoprite has a terrific sale on ice cream all the time, each week with a different major brand. The brand on sale for the week that I buy is my favorite.

If R’ Moshe said it’s Chalav Yisrael, that’s good enough for me.

Did he refer to it that way conversationally?

I still miss Fruzen Gladje. Only place I ever found it was at the IGA in Stroudsburg, Pa about 20 years ago.

In Vermont you can tour the Ben (Cohen) and Jerry (Greenfield)’s Factory and see how the Ice Cream is made , they give you some at the end and then there is a big Ice Cream Stand to have some Ice Cream

cherrybim, Shoprite sells CY ice cream? Which?

He is not referring to what is considered C”Y by most people who use the term.

We would call that ice cream “chalav stam”.

“cherrybim, Shoprite sells CY ice cream? Which?”

Shoprite sells the regular cholav yisroel brands but they are never on sale so they are, therefore, not my favorites.

Also, regular cholav yisroel ice cream does not come in most of the flavors made by the other ice cream brands.

    #782055

Anything that’s low in calories 🙂

Pride of the Farm melts in your mouth!

“Max and Minas (do they still have CY? I haven’t been there for years).”

Yup they always have a few flavors that are CY. I have a soft spot for max and minas…I got engaged there. Sort of

But Ben and Jerrys cholov yisroel flavors are just as good as max and minas. I love Dublin Mudslide

There are much better choices for CY ice cream in EY than there is in the US

    ……And doesnt taste as good

I don’t know if that’s true, but even if it is, if you would only eat CY you wouldn’t know that (even if it were true), and you would be happy with what you have (i.e. CY) since you wouldn’t know any better.

And if you only ate lokshin and never had steak, you would be happy with what you have since you wouldn’t know any better.

    #782065

the technical difference between OU(D) ice cream and Chalav Yisroel Ice Cream?

The OU is not claiming to have supervised the milking. “Chalav Yisroel” ice cream would only receive that designation if the milking was supervised and that milk tracked until the ice cream was packaged (unless it was under Feif Un’s hechsher ? ).

I don’t know if that’s true, but even if it is, if you would only eat CY you wouldn’t know that (even if it were true), and you would be happy with what you have (i.e. CY) since you wouldn’t know any better.

Unless you used to eat C”S.

yank- the homemade ice cream machines? if that is what you are asking about I have tasted that and they are not half as good as the ones that you buy in the store. I wouldn’t even call it ice cream!
