In what culture would this be the usual? Just wondering. I’m not familiar with the yeshivish norms, but I’ve never heard a story like this in Chasidish circles, with our limited dating practices and all.

I think the point here is not the amount of dates and how many the Chassidishe have, but the fact that the girl did get a few dates and said nothing on most of them – which I don’t think would be the norm anywhere. It definitely doesn’t have to indicate anything serious ch”v, but it does call to be looked into. Mazal tov and Bsuros tovos!

WOW, I must say I’m extremely impressed. The manner in which you responded to MDG’s respectful yet careless post says a lot about your attitude towards people and your strength in handling negativity in an assertive but sensitive way. Judging by this we can most certainly assume that you have always done your very best to treat your child with respect.

MDG, I just don’t understand the logic in “The fact that he’s smoking and listening to music on Shabbos *in the house*… In my mind, it bespeaks a real sense of anger…a real need to lash out in a direct, searing, and hurtful way.”

Why does it have to be a *need* to lash out in such a way? Why can’t it just be a *choice* to do so? I understand a large number of OTD’s, especially the ones that act aggressively, did go through some hardships in their lives. But IMO this doesn’t give anyone the right to interpret *all* bad behavior in an adult child as a result of bad parents or teachers. He has a koach habechirah, and he obviously is using his to choose to be oiver not only on issurim she’bein adom lamokom, but on bein odom lachaveiro as well. My heart goes out to WOW, and I’d think we are mechuyav to be her dan l’kaf zchus at least as much as her child! I sincerely hope he’ll do teshuvah really fast and bring nachas to his devoted parents. Chazak to you, WOW. You are a strong woman we should all take a lesson from.

Can you prove otherwise? Terror attacks haven’t decreased last I checked.

Who are the Bnai Yoel *Rabbanim* supporting them?

Hi, I’m fairly new to the site and have been following this conversation for a while. I felt compelled to create a membership and add my 2 cents, since I have some first-hand knowledge that might be helpful. A close relative of mine unfortunately got hooked up to NK, and b”h left after they turned more extreme. I know the NK ideology very well. NK sincerely believes not only that they are doing what Hashem wants, but that they’re actually “saving” Jews, including Jewish Zionists. They gain chizuk from the countless emails and posts to their website from people named Muhammed and Ali, claiming that they were intending to blow themselves up and now that they see that there are Jews out there supporting them they won’t do it, in order to prevent the killing of anti-Zionists in the processs.

What NK fails to understand, and what our argument to them must be, is that while they might have convinced a minimal amount of wannabe terrorists on one hand, they do not decrease terror attacks in general, and probably only increase them. Hamas and the PA still have plenty of members who either ignore NK or are just emboldened by them, using NK to prove that they’re killing for a worthy cause.

And the main problem is, NK currently does not have the backing of a single Torah authority to my knowledge. They’re must be a reason why all the rabbanim, including talmidim muvhakim of the Satmar Rebbe ZT”L, do not support them. Even if they would actually reduce terrorism (which has so far only escalated after their cozy meetings with the rasha in Iran), they would definitely need daas torah to justify the highly questionable means towards that end.
