We were once traveling to Toronto, and that day there was tornado and streets were flooded and tonz! of traffic. We asked the car next to us, and he told us there was a tornado and my then three year old sister asked what does a tomato have to do with anything?

I read this story somewhere. An older girl lived in Yerushalayim. One the families that she regularly ate by, tried to constantly redt shidduchim to her. One time they redt a shidduch of an older boy that they knew. The girl, Ahuva, said what is worng with him- does he have two heads or something. (since a lot of other shidduchim that were redt to her had major problems.)The lady of the house started to answer and say, Actually… when Ahuva cut her and said never mind, I don’t want to know, I will just go out with him. Later when the lady called the boy, he said something similar. They both agreed to go out with actually knowing what was wrong with the other. When he called her they had a nice conversation and were actually excited for the date. They made up a time and place to meet. When Ahuva got to the hotel she looked in the corner of the hotel and noticed the boy. She smiled and smooth out her hair with her black as ebony hand when she saw Meir with his seeing- eye dog.

Another insensitive comment I have heard a few people say were to a girl named Aidel. Although she is a very fine girl with excellent middos, she is not exactly an aidel maidel knaidel type- she has her own style. Anyhow, people would tell her that with a name like that you would expect her to be aidel.

oomis: I was just using the sfardi example to prove my point. Did you read the rest including the questions? My point was that one of the reasons that there is a “crisis” is because people are not open- minded enough. The age factor is included in that.

Have you considered Manchester? The focus is definitely hashkafa based. There is not a lot of work and there are vocational classes in the afternoon. There is a big spectrum of girls and as long as you follow the dress code and rules, there is no problem.

I found that a hot water was great whether I was homesick, not feeling the best, cold, or just wanted a bit of cozy warmth.

I think that part of what is causing the problem is sinas chinam, a lack of achdus, or close- mindedness- whatever you want to call it. For example, why are girls who sfardi only getting thought of about other sfaradim even if they are not suitable. Hello, maybe she wants someone askenazi- maybe ask her. Another prob.- she is not the right kind of sfardi- not to mention that she grew up in an ashkenazi neighborhood and does not mind switching minhagim. and then there are the ridiculoud questions- like do the dishes get stacked at the table or brought in individually. Does the fatehr take the subway or a bus to work? HELLO, who cares? Is that what is really important or is that what is causing the shidduch crisis and the divorce rate to go up? these are only examples that happened to people I know, and I am sure there is a lot more out there.

A guy and girl were having a sit-in. The host had put out cake and fruit. Both were 1st timers and the conversation was not going well. As it got more awkward the girl asked the guy if he wanted to eat something. He took an orange and started to peel it. During the peeling it squirted and hit the girl. To save face, he joke, “Oh I thought I would share some with you.” No they did not marry.

There is the story about the girl marrying her seminary teacher. Why the seminary ahd a single guy teaching single girls, I do not know! But it was the last one.

Another story is the one where the guy tips a bookcase over on a girl in a judaica store in Yerushalyim and she decided she liked him and told her parents she found her chassan.

There were two identical boys who had a date the same night. They decided that they would go to the same place with two floors and made up a time to meet in one of the bathrooms, and switch themselves and their cars and keys and see if any of the girls would realize. They did this and only one girl realized. One of the twins got engaged to the girl that realized.
