Here is how to get the $2 car pool rate on any Port Authority Bridge or Tunnel (Kids and Babies DO Count as people)

Carpooling is both eco-conscious and the most economical way to travel.

The Port Authority Carpool Plan provides the largest toll discount at the Port Authority bridges and tunnels. By carpooling, you save the most money and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

    * The toll for Port Authority Carpool customers is $2 per vehicle at all hours.

    * You must have an E-ZPass account and you must register for the Port Authority Carpool Discount Plan.

    * To register for the Carpool Plan, call 800-333-8655 (New York Service Center) or 888-288-6865 (New Jersey Service Center). Be sure to have your account number or tag number and PIN for account access.

    * Three or more people must be in a vehicle to be eligible for the discount (no commercial vehicles qualify).

    * Customers must use a staffed “Cash-E-ZPass” toll lane and come to a complete stop so the toll collector can verify the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Its only $11 from Brooklyn to Staten Island, Its free from Staten Island to brooklyn.

The trick is to go via Manhattan and Jersey (Bayonne Bridge is not that far from Ferry Terminal)

Park on the Staten Island Side, you can find parking there on the street On Sundays its free and easy.

If you drive through Jersey, there is a way to pay $2 on the bridges (Because of High Occupancy Vehicle rates). and coming back from Staten Island to Brooklyn is free

I would like to ask why my shoveling snow thread was Locked

I found out my wifes boss broke 3 ribs from falling on the ice this winter.

its a serious issue although many did not think so. And with a brief research it did appear that many rabbin do think its dangerous.

Maybe in Brooklyn its different, but here every year Hatzolah has a fundrasing campaign and they say their budget is about $5 Million dollars and each call they answer costs about $200-$300

Now some calls cost more than others like if they have to use a defibulator and my call probably cost less and all they had to do was carry me to the ambulance , drive to the hospital and give me a blanket (They dont re-use blankets)

It does seem many here do not understand what the ice that I fell on looked like. It did not look like a Sakana until you actually stepped on it. It looked like snow but was really packed ice. When people constantly step on snow and its not removed, it becomes ice, but it looks like snow.

The owner has admitted it was his fault, He told me his was sorry and should have done better.

I am not sure if I will need therapy. Id like to avoid it if possible. I am hoping it will heal itself. Although alot of Motrin is needed now.

Nor do I want to sue the property owner. They are sorry for what happend . Luckily I have medical insurance and that will pay for most of my medical bills (I am only responsible for co-pays). If I did not have insurance I am sure the ER visit would have been a couple of thousand dollars.

I do think the property owner should give a donation to Hatzolah since I needed to use them to go to the ER and I know Hatzolah calls really cost a minimum of $200-$300 each

I find some of these responses incredible.

It seems people are more makbid on Mutzkah than Sakanah. One should be Makbid on Sakanah and make sure it doesnt happen.

Everyone here who lives in NYC knows that it was slipperly this winter. No matter how careful you are, Falls are still possible. Nobody wants to fall.

What do you think, I was running in the ice and snow. Of course I was careful. You have to be careful in this weather.

If someone fell on YOUR sidewalk because you didnt shovel. Would you feel bad?

If you or your MOTHER fell because someone didnt shovel, how would you feel. Would you feel it was OK because of Mutzkah.

@Daas Yochid Perhaps I worded incorrectly as frankly I am upset. I am sure if you fell and severly hurt yourself due to others neglect, you would not be so happy either.

But which is a worse Chilul Shabbos, Someone shoveling snow OR someone Falling and getting real hurt that Hatzolah must come or even worse EMS must come and take them to the ER.

Someone said their grandfather passed away from slipping on the snow and ice, Is that not Chilul Hashem?

@ AinOhdMilvado , You are correct on the assumption that I did not see the Sakana until AFTER I fell.

Ice and Snow is a Slippperly Slope (No pun intended) and you might not realize how slippery it is until its too late

Like everyone else I had been treating the snow with a grain of salt especially since Ive never fallen like that before

@ iyhbyu In other words people should stay home because of the ice and snow.

the only Chilul Hashem is that the walk was not shoveled and someone fell

BTW I WAS taken by Hatzolah

I do not want to give out certain facts, but Walking around the unshoveled snow was not possible. It was the only way to get where I was going.

    It shouldnt even be controversial

The MAIN issue is SAKANA, and the SAKANA is very real. How many people do you know who fell this winter on snow and ice?

Alot of people did. Most times you fall its no biggie and usually for me it isnt either, but this time it WAS a biggie.

And I am not an older person, An older person who falls on the snow and ice can really hurt themselves.

I do not live in Brooklyn and I live in a neighborhood with an Eruv, but that is irrelevant.

You are not shoveling for yourself, You are shoveling to prevent Sakana
