Caution Urged For Users Of Niagara Gorge Trails

Niagara Gorge Trail System

State parks officials are urging hiker and others who use the trails along the Niagara Gorge to be cautious because of damaged caused by last week’s severe weather.

Thunderstorms that rolled across western New York on Friday night brought heavy rains and strong winds that caused rockslides and toppled trees across sections of the trails that run along the Niagara River.

The trails remain open to the public, but parks officials have posted signs alerting hikers that sections of the Niagara Gorge trails may be impassable because of storm damage. Officials tell local media outlets that it could take up to eight weeks to clear debris off the trails.
