President Obama called presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney to congratulate him on securing the Republican nomination, his campaign said Wednesday.
Romney clinched the GOP nomination Tuesday night with a victory in the Texas primary. Projections estimate the former Massachusetts governor now has surpassed the 1,144 delegates required to seal victory in the Republican race.
President Obama said that he looked forward to an important and healthy debate about Americas future, and wished Governor Romney and his family well throughout the upcoming campaign, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement.
The Romney campaign described the call as brief and cordial. It said the GOP candidate thanked the president for the congratulations and wished the president and his family well.

That was his first call; the next one will be to congratulate him on winning the presidency.
