Op-Ed: Decrying The Lack Of Response To The Continued Denigration Of Orthodox Jews By The NY Post Editorial Page

There is a well known quotation Quotation from Martin Niemöller, as follows:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

In light of recent editorials in the NY Post, the last 3 lines can be modified as:

Then they came for the Orthodox Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not an Orthodox Jew.

Chazal tell us, that Iyov, a member of paroh’s cabinet, was stricken with yissurim, because he did not protest when paroh made the gezaira against the yidden. His rationale that there was nothing he what can do to stop the gezaira was found lacking, since he could have protested.

As noted by Attorney Tyk in a previous letter, the NY Post is spearheading a smear campaign with vicious venom towards the “Orthodox Jewish Justice” of the New York State Supreme Court, who helps out his “orthodox Jewish deadbeats”.

As Election day is shortly upon us, we are sure to hear from askanim and self appointed leaders, extol us to vote for this or that candidate. One rhetorical question I have for them, and you should as well. Where were you to speak out and defend Orthodox Jews from the guile slander of the NY Post. On a separate note, where are the gifted pens of such talented writers as Avi Shafran. Does this not call for a written response?

  1. Frightening similarity to the lone cry of Rav Weissmandel during WWII. Politicians and “self annointed leaders” were nowhere to be found; interested only in maintaining good relations with the ruling elite. A throwback to early history, where the zekanim abandoned Moshe Rabeinu, our fearless leadrer, as he went to challenge Paroh’s authority. We need selfless leaders with qualities like this writer to speak out and tell the truth; like Rav Avigdor Miller and Reb Aaron in their times. Who knows, maybe this letter will trigger a post Tishrei “Chareidi Fall” in NYC, sweeping out the entrenched spineless self appointed power brokers.

  2. The NY post is known to be a piece of trash which any decent person doesn’t look in its direction. That is probably the reason no one knows whats in it.
