In a stunning piece of political news out of Lakewood, Agudah NJ Director Rabbi Avi Schnall is resigning from his position at Agudath Israel of America, and intends to run for the New Jersey State Assembly.
The news was first reported by Lakewood Alerts.
Schnall, who has been at the helm of Agudah’s New Jersey operations for nearly a decade, intends to run for the NJ-30 Assembly seat as a Democrat, posing a challenge to current Republican Assemblyman Sean Kean.

I have good feelings about Avi Schnall’s ability to ignore and take the tough situations that are going to arise (for our benefit) with the guidance of Gedolei Yistroel as his modus operandi.

I know Avi well. Avi does not make a move without daas torah. I am sure alot of careful thought went into what exactly is best for the klal. Not for himself. Avi doesn’t care what people think. Only what’s good for klal yisroel and what daas torah tells him to do. Period. Klal yisroel will not lose one of our best advocates. Avi is surely doing this for us. Hatzlacha Avi. We are rooting for you!
Chaim: If any Daas Torah supports this move by him, then let’s hear the name of which rabbi supports him. Otherwise it is fair to assume this is simply him deciding on his own his next career move without anyone’s advice.
