NYC: Defiant Comptroller Still Eyeing Mayor Run in 2013

New York City’s comptroller says he’s moving ahead with plans to run for office in 2013, in spite of the recent arrest of his campaign treasurer.

Comptroller John Liu, a Democrat, has been considered a top contender to succeed Mayor Michael Bloomberg when the billionaire’s third term ends.

Liu said Wednesday when asked if he was still considering running for mayor that “all options are on the table.”

Any ambitions for the mayor’s office have been overshadowed by a federal investigation into illegal contributions to his campaign.

So far, two people have been arrested in the probe, including his 25-year-old campaign treasurer on Tuesday.

Hours after the treasurer’s arrest, Liu said he was weighing whether to drop his bid for office in 2013. But Wednesday he reaffirmed his commitment to the campaign.

  1. First Kelly, now Liu.

Has anyone noticed that all viable mayoral contenders are being accused of criminal activity, except for City Council leader Quinn?

Do you think there is some strategy here to disqualify all credible opponents to Quinn?

    I do!
