Council Member Simcha Felder hosted a community breakfast with NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly in Boro Park this morning. As soon as Simcha Felder introduced the commissioner to speak – something no one expected to happen – took place.

As the Daily News Blog put it “NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly paid tongue-in-cheek tribute to Councilman Simcha Felder at a breakfast in Brooklyn, presenting the would-be comptroller with a certificate of appreciation for his “dedicated work to protect the City from an imminent quality of life danger: Overfed pigeons.”

Along with the certificate, Kelly gave Felder, who is drawing considerable press for his proposals to curb the city’s pigeon population, with a statue of a pigeon!

Commissioner Kelly, a popular, admired figure within the Jewish community, is expected by many to join the next mayoral race for NYC. Analysts claim that Kelly’s campaign would easily gain the support of the community as a whole.

The commissioner spoke of the drastic reduction in NYC crime during the past few years.

More than 200 people participated in this mornings breakfast – including many community leaders, Askonim, Police Chiefs, and other NYC Officials.
