Statement of Agudath Israel of America on the Confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court

Agudath Israel of America congratulates Neil Gorsuch upon his confirmation to serve as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. As we noted in our statement of support for his candidacy, Mr. Gorsuch has a stellar record as an outstanding jurist, and a keen appreciation of the bedrock principle of religious liberty. We believe Justice Gorsuch will be a worthy successor to the late Justice Antonin Scalia, and we look forward to him making a major contribution to American jurisprudence and law.

  1. An “originalist” is “good for the Jews” (at least the “frum” Jews, off the derekh types disagree strongly), since our rights are clearly based on the original meaning of the 14th amendment (equal protection), the first amendment (freedom of expression including freedom of religion), and the test act clause (article VI, final sentence, and at the time of adoption they debated whether these laws should apply to Jews, and much to the consternation of many at the time (who wanted freedom for diverse groups of protestants, and no more) they made a conscious decision to include us in the scope of their protection. All we need is someone apply the “orignal” meaning, and we are protected.
