NYC Mayor DeBlasio Backs Out Of Planned Meeting With Trump, Days After Questioning His Sanity

Less than a week ago, NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio questioned President Trump’s mental fitness, even telling MSNBC he “hopes he is sane, but his actions don’t suggest it.” Today, DeBlasio is in Washington, where he had a scheduled meeting at the White House with the man whose sanity he questioned.

The following is via WABC:

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is in the nation’s capitol Wednesday, but after a Justice Department announcement he’s canceled his face-to-face meeting with President Donald Trump.

De Blasio was set to be among a group of mayors from around the country as part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The focus of the meeting is the nation’s infrastructure. The president has promised more than a trillion dollars in infrastructure funding.

But at around 12:30 p.m., Mayor de Blasio tweeted that he would not be attending the meeting.

The Justice Department ramped up pressure on so-called sanctuary cities, like New York City, seeking public safety grant money, warning state and local officials they could be legally forced to prove they are cooperating with federal immigration authorities.

Officials sent letters to roughly two dozen jurisdictions threatening to issue subpoenas if they don’t willingly relinquish documents showing they aren’t withholding information about the immigration status of people in custody. The department has repeatedly threatened to deny millions of dollars in important grant money from communities that refuse to share such information with federal authorities, as part of the Trump administration’s promised crackdown on cities and states that refuse to help enforce U.S. immigration laws.

The 23 jurisdictions that received letters Wednesday include Chicago, New York, Denver, Los Angeles and the states of Illinois, Oregon and California. Officials said the places have been previously warned that they need to provide information about their policies to be eligible to receive grants that pay for everything from bulletproof vests to officer overtime.

The last time the President and Mayor de Blasio met was at Trump Tower when President Trump was the president-elect.

Mayor de Blasio has been very critical of President Trump on many issues, even leading a rally across the street from Trump Tower last month, yelling “shame” in response to the GOP tax plan.

The meeting is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday.

  1. Just waiting till Commy De Blasio starts yelling at Trump when he accepts money for the infrastructure funding. Commy De Blasio is the insane one.

  2. Wow. Political ego choosing not to attend a meeting that could bring us lots of $$$ to help us fix our infrastructure. Shame on you de-sleepyo

  3. Does Mayor De Blasio think he is a neurologist to decide if someone is sane? He should be the mayor of all the people, not just the illegals and the welfare crowd. What about the hard working citizens? It is very rude to disrespect the President. He is also lowering the chances of NYC getting the federal funds. De Blasio is very left wing. Not representing the eight million New Yorkers.

  4. Mayor Bill “opportunistic failure” DeBlasio is itching to take over the mantle of the left wing of the Democratic party. He doesn’t have the least concern for the city or its issues. When the police department was in mourning over the brutal and senseless murder of an officer, our mayor thought it best to run to Munich to protest the President. Now, when he has a chance to ask the President for assistance in the name of the people of this city, he cancels the meeting, to grandstand and curry favor with the hopeless constituency he hopes to lead in 2020.

  5. This clown is only back in office as NYC mayor because of voter apathy. Next time there’s an election, the “angry masses” have to remember that EVERY VOTE COUNTS.
