New York Labor Leader Compares Trump To Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini

The leader of New York state’s largest public-sector union compared Donald Trump to Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin on Wednesday, saying the Republican president could have given tips to the three despots.

CSEA President Danny Donohue called the president “that lunatic in the White House” during an appearance in Manhattan with other labor leaders and Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The men were discussing the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that government workers can’t be forced to contribute to unions.

“If his idea of freedom is just do what I tell you, I know some people named Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin who he could have mentored,” Donohue said.

Moments later, New York City teachers union President Michael Mulgrew condemned Trump and the Supreme Court justices behind the decision, saying he “will pray for them all when they’re burning in hell.”

Cuomo has repeatedly criticized Trump’s policies and decisions but has pointedly avoided name-calling. He sat largely expressionless during the remarks, offering only a polite smile.

Cuomo was measured when asked about the comments.

“I have political differences with this president, no doubt,” he told reporters.

The Civil Service Employees Association represents state and local government employees, school district workers and others.

In response to Wednesday’s ruling, Cuomo signed an executive order exempting the home addresses and phone numbers of public workers from open records requests. Cuomo said such information could be used by anti-union groups to harass union members — though such information could already be withheld under current law.

  1. Wow, so Cuomo and DeBlasio have not distanced themselves from such a lowlife person. They have no problem with such incitful inflammatory comments? This is the strategy of the Democrat party going forward? Maxine got the ball rolling. Charlottesville means nothing?
Now if the shoe was on the other foot and a Republican made the exact same comments about a Democrat…………..the world would end as we knnow it.

  2. Ridiculous. They’re complaining because people can no longer be forced to be part of their union?Self-serving hypocrites.

  3. Classic. These labor leaders are great examples of NY’s bizarre political system. Giving civil servants the option of not being forced to pay dues to a union that supports leftist issues and incompetent teachers is considered dictatorial. The Nassau County CSEA runs daily radio ads where the local president declares how great a job the union does. If I were a member, I’d ask why are my dues being wasted

  4. Generall I find that the more caustic and harsh the tone of one’s comments, the more unfair and underhanded behavior that person was engaged in, hence the need to express his frustration in being caught in the act of doing something that takes advantage of others for his own personal gain.

It’s about time someone stood up to these unions that take members’ money but don’t deliver anything significant to help them.

  5. Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini were all socialists (big government, tax and spend) who regarded anyone who disagreed with them as a mortal enemy to be vilified and persecuted. They would routinely attack their enemies, harass them in public places, and cause them to lose their jobs.

Trump is a anti-socialist (doesn’t like spending public money, doesn’t like taxes). If he doesn’t like you, all he does is tweet. And even though Trump has nothing to do with it, the Supreme Court just crippled public union which have relied on compulsory membership since now employees can’t be forced to pay dues against their will (which has always been the case for federal civil service).

The truth is the Democratic party is increasingly moving in the direction of Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini, and we should be very wary of them.

  6. akuperma: you must be living in Wonderland. Give my regards to Alice. For you (and others) yo ignore the fascist tendencies (I am charitable) of the President imakes me think you are an ostrich. Take your head out of the sand before speaking.

  7. The difference between Trump, on the one hand, and Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini, on the other, is that Trump is not proposing to kill anybody. That’s a major difference, and anyone who ignores that difference is doing a disservice to the public dialogue about Trump and his disastrous administration.

  8. It sounds like he calling the members of the Supreme Court who voted against forced union dues, as tyrannical political gangsters that killed millions of innocent civilians. This dufus should be taken in for psychiatric evaluation. For all the good reasons that unions were created, they somehow end up with depraved leaders and systems of corruption. I hope their paying members demand changes.

  9. Anyone who supports this conflation and the rest of the absurd holocaust rhetoric of the left is being disrespectful of the millions of people MURDERED by these evil rishaim, ym”shm.
