Attempted Robbery and Assault in Flatbush on Tuesday Morning

Two people were the victim of an assault and an attempted robbery in Midwood, early Tuesday morning.

The incident occured on Avenue O and East 17 Street, at around 2:40AM, when a group of 5 African American males approached two men walking on the street and tried to rob them. They refused to give them their wallets, and one of the victims received a punch in the face.

The victims screamed, promoting local neighbors to come out of their homes. One of them quickly called the NYPD and Flatbush Shomrim – who arrived in seconds and began canvassing the area. Unfortunately, they managed to get away.

FDNY EMS responded and treated the victim for facial trauma.

Police tell YWN that there has not been a reported assault in the area in quite some time, and this appears to be an isolated incident, but the community should be aware of their surroundings at all times.

YWN notes that Flatbush Shomrim had such an incredible fast response time, due to their nightly patrols in Flatbush, where multiple volunteers are on patrol and work closely with the police from the 70, 61, 63, and 66 Precincts.

If you have any information that can assist in this investigation, or if you see anything suspicious, please call 911 and the Flatbush Shomrim Emergency hotline 24 hours a day at 718-338-9797.
