Baltimore Man Apologizes For Shouting ‘Heil Hitler’ During ‘Fiddler On The Roof’ Show

A man who yelled “Heil Hitler! Heil Trump!” at a theater performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Baltimore says he’s sorry for the outburst.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Anthony M. Derlunas II said in an interview with the newspaper that his comments were “beyond a mistake.”

The 58-year-old said he’d been drinking heavily before the show. Derlunas said the classic play set in a Jewish village in czarist Russia reminded him of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, which prompted his outburst.

The comments sparked panic in the Hippodrome Theatre and a few dozen people began running for the exits. The scare came a few weeks after a gunman fatally shot 11 people inside a Pittsburgh synagogue.

Rich Scherr, a contributing sportswriter for The Baltimore Sun, says people started running and he was “waiting to hear a gunshot.” But the man was escorted out and the show continued. Scherr uploaded video of the aftermath showing the audience reaction.

  1. The Pro-Nazi and the “pro-Trump salut” have nothing in commun. It was a provocation to degrade President Trump.
A torpedo sent by the Lefties. Take care. There will many of the same sort in the near future. It’s a shame!

  2. It turns out according to the Baltimore Sun, that the man was not only drunk, but that he was anti-Trump. The “fake news” articles made it sound like he was some sort of Nazi threatening Jews. Actually he was supporting the left wing “Resistance” and was saying that Trump was like Hitler (part of the “big lie” the Democrats have been supporting). That YWN printed the misleading AP story shows poor news judgment. This had nothing to do with anti-Semitism, Needless to say, since the man was making a poltiically correct statement, he was not charged with a crime.

  3. What do you mean by escorted out? Was he arrested for a hate crime or does only using the N word get you locked up for a hate crime?

  4. US Fake News media is now worse than in old USSR: There is no news in NYT, US Izvestia (news in Russian) and there is no truth in WAPO, US Pravda (truth in Russian).
According to Baltimore police report: “The man who yelled “Heil Hitler, Heil Trump,” during a theater performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” this week reportedly said he made the statements because the production reminded him of his hatred of President Trump.”
I guess this creep has something in common with some moronic commenters on this site comparing Trump to Hitler. You know who i am referring to.

  5. “Talmidchochom” (I doubt it) he did not commit any crime, so of course he was not arrested. Stop making up lies. Using the N word does NOT get you locked up. We have freedom of speech here. You can use that or any other word to your heart’s content, and while you might get beaten up you will not be arrested.

  6. Milhouse, but this seems to have been the classic cited exception.
Shouting Fire! In a crowded theater (Or, Heil, which, kinda like Akhbar, is often accompanied by shooting).

  7. I don’t know about that, I think there are cases where you can be arrested for using the N word as you may be causing a civil disturbance and threatening the peace (maybe riots). In that case, you can be carted off. This is in contrast to all of these articles we are seeing everyday of Dem’s doing nazi salutes, which doesn’t meet any of The Court’s tests in silencing speech.

  8. I think there are cases where you can be arrested for using the N word as you may be causing a civil disturbance and threatening the peace (maybe riots).

That is not true. There are NO circumstances where using that or any other word can get you arrested.

Mrs D, your so-called “exception” comes from Oliver Wendell Holmes’ infamous opinion in Schenck, that just as the first amendment doesn’t protect “falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic”, so it also doesn’t protect protesting the draft. That decision has since been completely repudiated, and seen as one of the worst decisions the Supreme Court ever made. Nobody today would ever think of arresting anti-government protesters just because we’re at war against Islamic terrorists. Perhaps someone would still be arrested for “falsely shouting fire in a theatre and causing a panic“, because false statements of fact are not protected, but never for truly shouting fire, let alone expressing an opinion, which cannot possibly cause a panic (if some people did panic it was their own fault, not his; they had no rational cause to panic).

  9. Ok, Mr Milhous, Falsely shouting fire. Once again, my point is made anyway. Putting aside your impressive show of historical knowledge (yeah i knew this too, but was borrowing the statement for a shorthand point. Apologies), you are really supporting it. To elaborate a smidgeon, shouting Heil at a jewish performance in a crowded theater, which society has lately been conditioned to associate with deranged gunfire, much the same as shouting Allahu Akhbar, can likely cause a stampede. And of course this has not run its judicial course yet, so all i was doing was postulating what seems likely to me. Then again, sadly, all of the Sharpton’s and Farakhan’s and the BLM crowd et al provocations, barely raise a legal eyebrow.
Hypothetically taking this step further, If someone saw this guy brandishing anything that might even resemble a weapon – some shiny object – and the witness shouted “Gun!” but he was mistaken, and there was a stampede, would he be guilty of a speech crime? In the xase of the so-called witness he really caused a riot, but did not lie intentionally.
