NY Gov. Cuomo: Biden Makes ‘Best Case’ For President Among Democrats

Of all the Democrats considered potential candidates for president in two years, former Vice President Joe Biden makes the “best case,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

Cuomo, a Democrat who begin his third term as governor on Tuesday, said Biden demonstrates the credibility that he said any Democrat must have in order to prevail in 2020.

“The problem for the democrats is going to be this: it’s going to be credibility,” he said on WAMC radio. “Of all the names that are out there, I think Joe Biden has the best case… He brings the most of the secret ingredient you need to win for a democrat, which is credibility.”

A longtime Biden ally and friend, Cuomo has been mentioned as a possible White House contender himself, though he has repeatedly said he will not enter the race.

Biden has not announced any plans to run but is one of many in his party believed to be considering a campaign.

When asked if he would serve as Biden’s running mate, Cuomo said he’s concentrating on leading the state.

“I am not even focusing on any of that,” he said.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts took the first step toward formally launching a campaign when she announced Monday the formation of an exploratory committee. She is the most prominent Democrat yet to make the move.
