Sullivan County Planning On Summer Camps Opening

During the summer months each year, the population of Sullivan County triples as part-time residents, mostly from New York City, come up to the Catskills.

Hundreds of kids stay at summer camps and with the state on ‘pause’ until at least May 15, it is unclear if they will open this year.

During an online update on Monday, County Manager Josh Potosek said they are planning as if they will open.

“We don’t want to be in a position where we are near the middle of June, end of June, having done no planning on how to operate those safely and have the state say they can open, so we are doing the prudent thing assuming they will be open. Obviously, we will know more as May 15th gets here and as June approaches,” he said.

  1. Here is the problem:

So suppose the Catskill Mts is a region least impacted, so the state will open camps, which bring in THOUSANDS of staff and campers, ALL FROM OTHER REGIONS, including areas heavily impacted by COVID-19!!!

    Same with bungalow colonies.

The people attending are NOT local, so the planning process is FLAWED and DANGEROUS!

We don’t want to bring on the “second wave” of the virus just so parents can get their kids out of their hair.

The pain in the neck of being cooped up with the kids is small compared to the many in our community cooped up in ICU on ventilators and R”L many “cooped up” in a lonely grave.

    Enough suffering!

  2. There is unfortunately already so much animosity toward the frum people who come to the Catskills for the summer. If this c”v causes a more significant outbreak of corona in the area, I’m afraid this would lead to a huge chillul Hashem.

  3. summer has always been my favorite time of the year seeing my jewish friends and neighbors, But at this time I believe is not so safe for them and the people who live here.If the state has a plan for testing and they follow the rules maybe this could happen but the problem is they don’t follow the laws of the land. People conplain about them but they are who they are and we need to respect that. These are people of peace. I moved into a ares of drugs and viliance and are very sad sand frighten with this around me but I made this choice at this time. Keep your faith and believe everything will work out there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Believe God is in control
