Want A Deep, Healthy Sleep? Consider Making These Bedroom Updates


The quality of your sleep can affect many areas of your life, and the importance of getting a good night’s sleep cannot be underestimated. Also, the duration of your sleep cycle may not be as important as the quality of the sleep itself – if you sleep with one eye open, then you may not wake up feeling well rested. Some people only need to sleep for four hours a night, whereas others need a minimum of nine hours to feel strong and up for the day.

All in all, allowing your body to rest as much as you need to is incredibly important for your health, so trying out different techniques to allow you to sleep deeply and healthfully is important. Here are a few ways in which updating your bedroom can help.

Hide the Phone and Laptop

Most people these days are used to binge watching a television show until they fall asleep, or doom scrolling through news headlines until they feel tired and overwhelmed. Both are actually bad habits that circumvent our capacity to sleep deeply, without interruptions. Electronics are distracting, and any light they give off will be distracting in your sleep. Even digital alarm clocks can be a bit of a problem if their light is too strong for you. As a workaround, get a nightstand or cabinet that can hide these pieces of equipment in ensconced places that won’t keep them so clearly in your view. They’ll be ready for you when you wake up, but there’s no need to deal with them at the present moment as you try to sleep.

Update the Mattress

A proper mattress and pillow are essential to helping you get a good night’s sleep. A good mattress isn’t just helpful in terms of putting you to sleep, as City Mattress states, but it’s also an integral upgrade for your back as well as your overall health. A mattress needs to be able to offer both comfort and support, so if your bed fails in one respect, it will affect other things in your life. One thing to take into account is that the older you get, the more sensitivity you will experience at different pressure points, which is why investing in a “plush” version will help you a great deal to get the sleep you need. This is one area in which it definitely doesn’t pay to skimp and save.

Choose Soft Colors

A room with loud and crazy colors will be hard to sleep in, which is why one upgrade you can consider is simply repainting, or elevating your decor. Colors similar to gray, light blue, silver, and pale green provide a nice accent while being calm enough to help bring down your blood pressure, and are conducive to sleep. Rooms that are painted red, black, or magenta will not help you get a good night’s sleep, for obvious reasons.

Besides taking on the simple interventions above, taking the time to declutter your room and rid it of any messes or excessive junk is bound to improve your sleep. Assess the space, and make note of anything that makes you feel nervous or on edge – chances are, that might be something you need to get rid of ASAP.
