The father of Jaoquin Oliver, a victim of the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018, heckled President Biden during remarks Monday celebrating the passage of a bipartisan gun bill.
“You have to do more than this!” Manuel Oliver yelled at the president. His son Joaquin was a 17-year-old student at the Parkland, Florida, high school when he was gunned down on February 18, 2018. “You have to open an office in the White House!”
“I’ve been trying to tell you this for years and years!” he added.
Oliver was escorted from the event, which was held on the South Lawn of the White House, by security after yelling at the president.
The president attempted to get Oliver to quiet down before security took him out.
“Sit down! You’ll hear what I have to say,” Biden said. “We have one. Let me finish my comment. Let me talk.”
Before the ceremony, Oliver made his displeasure with it, which the White House billed as a “celebration” of the gun bill’s passage.
“The world CELEBRATION has no space is a society that saw 19 kids massacred just a month ago,” Oliver tweeted. “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years. Not me, no Joaquin.”
At the event, Biden said that the bill he signed Monday was a first step toward banning assault weapons in their entirety.
“Now is the time to galvanize this movement because that’s our duty to the people of this nation,” Biden said. “We’re living in a country awash in weapons of war.”

The pain of a father who’s son isn’t with him anymore
I won’t every say I can understand someone else’s pain, especially involving the loss of a child in a mass shooting but this guy was invited by the WH notwithstanding his prior reputation for being disruptive. He also spoke with Biden at the reception PRIOR to the Rose Garden event and made the same point. The President rightfully asked him not to interrupt and allow him to make his point about the legislation being the best compromise that was politically viable. Disrupting public events to seek publicity for a “cause” or to express disagreement has sadly become a norm from local school board meetings to WH events.
So according to (as President Biden glowingly refers to her) our first African American female proud lesbian press secretary, it’s considered free speech to threaten and intimidate the family of a supreme court justice you personally disagree with but it’s NOT free speech to ask OUR President who’s salary WE pay, a question!!! The democrats have become the party of tyranny.

Not getting involved: Question was asked and answered before the President’s speech. Better than Trump’s typical “sit down and shut up” to questions he refused to answer. This guy wasn’t asking a question. He was saying Biden should do MORE on gun control than the bill Congress passed. Biden explained in the pre-event reception that as President, he is limited in what he can impose in relation to second amendment issues. h

What awful, uncivilized behavior – if this grieving father had any decency, he would have rioted, smashed glass windows, and burnt things to the ground like the laudable left, that GHadorah supports does.
This “grieving father” was invited to the White House event, notwithstanding his know proclivity to “interrupt” public events. He was also inside the WH prior to the event and had an opportunity to vent his concerns to Biden who listened but made clear that he did not have the authority to go beyond recent SCOTUS rulings w/o legislative authorization and the bill he was signing was a good start. Notwithstanding dbrim’s rant, I have little interest in either the “laudible left” or the “reprehensible right”. Both reflect the lunatic fringes of our lost “center” and civil discourse.
