Cementing its role as the leading purveyor of anti-semitism in New York. Columbia University “scholar” Michael Rebell filed a hateful and ignorant lawsuit last night about yeshiva education.
YWN gives you the professor’s own words:
“The average yeshiva graduate speaks little or no English, has few or no marketable skills, earns a household income well below the average income in New York State, marries young and has many children, and relies upon public assistance to support his large family.”
Really? Has he never encountered the tens of thousands of professionals in literally every field in New York? Or the thousands of businesses all across New York built and run by yeshiva graduates that employ tens if not hundreds of thousands of workers?
Sure, yeshiva graduates marry young and have children. Building stable and healthy families is a virtue — unless you are at Columbia University!
Even more offensive is his complaint that:
“Despite their total lack of knowledge of American history, civics, and public policy issues, large percentages of the members of these ultra-Orthodox communities vote.”
Yup, we do, and we will continue to do so.
We guess the Columbia mindset is that only Mamdani supporting trust-fund babies can vote.
Incredibly, the professor’s ignorance is exceeded by his arrogance. While he represents only three unnamed kids, he claims to speak for more than 100,000 current yeshiva students. YWN wonders how all these supposedly non-English speaking, ignorant kids appointed him.
YWN contacted PEARLS, which has led the legal fight to protect our chinuch from the enemies of yeshiva education for over a decade, along with Torah Umesorah. They promised that “we will make sure to not only defeat the lawsuit’s baseless legal claims but also to set the record straight about its many distortions of yeshiva education and Torah families.”
May they and all of Klal Yisroel continue to have siyata dishmaya as we enter the yimei hadin.

Would he ever say…
“The average Harlem resident speaks little or no English, has few or no marketable skills, earns a household income well below the average income in New York State, has many children out of wedlock, pays no taxes, commit the majority of the crimes in our borough, and relies upon public assistance for virtually all their needs .”
No he wouldn’t, because they are all voting for Mamdani and because he would be fired.
He’s probably basing it off the ultra orthodox students that go to Columbia University and still got in
Nu, another materialistic goy who measures success in Dollars and cents. The human being is just a sophisticated animal, who goes to study as a good way to hunt for food and shelter and afford vacations. Even crime rate doesn’t enter his measures of educational success…
The best response to this would be to present statistics of great regent and SAT scores from the yeshivos as well as employment and welfare statistics.
MD > another materialistic goy who measures success in Dollars and cents.
We don’t have to follow those materialistic views – unless we ask them for money. I don’t think the professor will worry about those who choose to live their lives poorly without getting government benefits.
So you are fine with the notion that the only group more socially destructive than graduates of Chassidic mosdos (and we all know which ones) are African Americans?
Not “another materialistic goy.” He is quite Jewish. Unless you want to do the Santos methodology, that he may not be a goy, but he is “goy-ish.”
My son went through the yeshiva system. His school was not accredited. Now that he is in Yeshiva gedola, if he wanted to get tap and pell grants, he needed to take a certain math, reading and writing test. Most of the bochurim in his yeshiva needed to take it. They all scored well above passing, and higher than average. Not one of the boys failed. If the yeshiva system is so terrible, how is it that my son scored in the top 5% on those subjects? This whole “Yeshiva does not educate.” is a scam, that is based on ignorance. If we wanted our boys to learn about DEI, then the professor would be thrilled, but the fact that my son can do math in the top 5%, because he was taught how to think, unlike the typical public school student, is something that the professor is too dumb to wrap his head around.
MDshweks,
Even if you measure success in dollars and cents, I think Yeshiva graduates are still doing way better than average.
Delete the marrying and supporting a family, and he just described at least half of public school students. Will he sue the state?

He is not only being offensive, but he is totally ignorant. The average NYS yeshiva graduate has a regents diploma from their yeshiva HS, including a rather good command of the English language.
Many of those also go on to Universities, including two well-known Universities in the NY area that are Jewish-sponsored and cater to Jews of various stripes.
What a hate-filled buffoon.
Those cursed jews are too smart and vicious. They control the banks, the economy, the stock market, the real estate market, the job market, all politicians and assassinations, and even the weather.
And he’s worried about grades in a school that does nothing, like he does nothing with his life??
How dare they vote in our democracy??
