Iran overnight Monday fired a drone at a huge, fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker anchored at an Emirati port in Dubai, setting it on fire and damaging the ship’s hull.
The enormous tanker, over three football fields long, was carrying over a million barrels of oil.
Emirati authorities announced on Tuesday morning—hours after the attack—that they had succeeded in containing the fire aboard the Al Salmi tanker and there were no injuries or oil leakage.
All 24 crew members were reported safe.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported the attack, saying the vessel was 31 nautical miles (57 kilometers) northwest of Dubai.
