SCAM ALERT: Multiple Flatbush Residents Targeted By Towing Scheme Over Shabbos

Flatbush residents are being warned about a troubling pattern of vehicles being towed under highly suspicious circumstances over Shabbos, with victims forced to pay hundreds of dollars to retrieve their cars.

YWN is aware of multiple incidents in which vehicles were towed late Friday night, allegedly for blocking driveways. However, several cases raise serious red flags — including instances where homeowners’ own vehicles were towed, as well as a son-in-law’s car parked at a residence.

Under NYC law, when a vehicle is blocking a driveway — even slightly — the proper procedure is to call 911 or 311. The NYPD responds and issues a ticket, after which the property owner may arrange for a tow through a company of their choosing.

In these recent incidents, it appears a tow truck company may have been proactively patrolling Flatbush, identifying vehicles and towing them without following standard protocol.

At least one company identified in connection with these incidents is F&S Roadside Services.

Flatbush Shomrim is actively working with the NYPD to investigate.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is urged to contact Flatbush Shomrim at 718-338-09797 or call 911 immediately.

  1. without the call to police, it’s car theft, so there shouldn’t be any problem apprehending and charging the perps.
