NYC: Hate Campaign Targets A Dozen Synagogues

A threatening letter that forced police to evacuate an Upper West Side synagogue was sent to a dozen more places of worship, according to a report.

The hate mail – which threatened to blow up the syngagues on New Year’s Eve – was sent by somebody conducting a campaign of fear, the New York Post reported.

“We have reasons to believe someone wants to spread fear,” Rabbi Allen Schwartz of the Congregation Ohab Zedek synagogue, on 95th Street at Columbus Avenue, told the Post.

That synagogue was evacuated on Thursday after the letter was received.

“It was a letter sent to ten or 12 other synagues,” said Schwartz.

Authorities were unable to confirm to the Post if other threats were made.
