Arizona Lawmakers Trying To Block Westboro Baptist Church From Protesting At Shooting Victims Funerals

Soon, the victims that died in the tragic shooting in Tucson will be laid to rest and there’s concern about one group planning to protest at the funerals.

Now lawmakers in Arizona are taking action.

The group is from the controversial church in Kansas.

The Westboro Baptist Church members are known for protesting military funerals and now they’ve released a statement on their website asking people to protest little Christina Green’s funeral. Green was the 9-year-old killed in the attack.

The church has caused outrage when it protested military funerals in other states.

Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema says when hearing of the plans she got downright angry and decided to take action. Sinema has drafted legislation and is getting some help from fellow legislators.

“We patterned legislation after Ohio’s law which is constitutional, it’s been upheld in court, and I got permission from the speaker and the senate president to wave the rules. We’re gonna pass the bill (Tuesday) on the floor and the Governor is gonna sign it [Tuesday] afternoon,” said Sinema.

“The bill requires them to be at least 300 feet away from the funeral from an hour before the funeral starts to an hour after it ends and that way people can grieve and love in peace,” said Sinema.

The first funerals for victims are Thursday and Friday. Sinema says she hopes this will protect the families.

The Wesboro Baptist Church recently protested outside a few synagogues in brooklyn, and were met with counter protests.

  1. These baptist ‘christians’ make a practice of mocking the deceased soldiers and their families as a means of protesting the USA’s various wars abroad in defense of our country.
