The leader of the New Jersey Assembly’s GOP caucus says the 32 Republicans in the lower house can vote however they want to on same gender marriage.
Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick of Westfield says there won’t be any arm-twisting before the bill comes up for a vote Thursday.
He says most Republicans believe — as Gov. Chris Christie does — that the question of legalizing same-gender marriage should be put to popular vote.
Christie, a Republican who opposes same gender marriage, has promised “very swift action” if the bill reaches his desk.
There are more than enough Democrats in the Assembly to pass the bill, even if no Republicans vote for it.
The state Senate approved the measure Monday. There, two Republicans voted for it and two Democrats voted against it.

“…He says most Republicans believe — as Gov. Chris Christie does — that the question of legalizing same-gender marriage should be put to popular vote…”
Proof again that the Democrat Party is the party of evil.
Let’s see how the “orthodox” Assembly Leader Gary Schaer votes on this. These political hacks need to know they WILL be run out of office if they vote for this bill and we MUST follow through.
@Mark Levin-Amen to that!! Santorum in 2012
@mark levin: “Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D., Passaic) said that as an Orthodox Jew, he could not vote yes.
“This is not something which my religion allows,” he said, adding that his vote would not change if Christie vetoed the bill and the Assembly tried to override it.”
I guess you can remove the quotes from “orthodox.”
