EMS Organizations Prepare for Lag B’Omer

Magen David Adom (MDA) will be out in unprecedented numbers this year on Lag B’Omer in Meron. The EMS organization is assigning hundreds of ambulances and assigning more manpower than in previous years, some feel due to the negative press on MDA in the recent state comptroller’s report. In the case of need, MDA may be contacted by dialing 101.

YWN-ISRAEL spoke with officials at Ichud Hatzalah (IH) who explain that as has been the case in past years, a command center is established and the organization will be out in large numbers as is its norm. This includes EMT and advanced life support responders, utilizing an array of vehicles to adapt to the challenges of providing coverage for so many people in a relatively confined area, as well as access roads leading to and from Meron.

IH President Eli Beer spoke with YWN-ISRAEL shortly before heading north to Meron, where he will oversee the operation. He explained that his personnel have been working on location for days, preparing, checking and double checking the equipment, ensuring communications is in place and setting up the infrastructure required to undertake an operation of this magnitude.

IH will operate no less than 10 stations in addition to roving units, all operating under the command of R’ Nachman Klein, the Galil commander of the organization.

In the event of need, one may contact IH by dialing 1221.

Needless to say Israel Police and N. Galil firefighters are also on high alert and have taken appropriate measures to prepare for the event. Police urge people planning to travel to Meron for Lag B’Omer to do so by public transportation, not private vehicles.

The nationwide information number for the event is 1-700-500-679.

The photos show some of the advanced preparations ahead of Lag B’Omer.
