Bus Returning – Relief for Meah Shearim Residents

After an extended period without bus service, some good news for Meah Shearim residents as it appears the Egged 1 bus to the Kosel will soon return to the streets of the Yerushalayim community. The community council in Geula is receiving a growing number of complaints and requests, many from the elderly in Meah Shearim, seeking to have their bus returned as the absence of bus service has resulted in great hardship for them.

The bus service was halted due to repeated attacks by the so-called sikrikim, the delinquents and law-breakers who feel that are responsible for determining community policy, using violence and attacks against buses as a vehicle to accomplish their goals.

For Egged however, the bus company is not about to just begin sending buses without prior coordination with police, seeking to be ready for any and every eventuality.

Community council officials report that there are far more residents demanding the bus service resume than the number of signatures opposed to the resumption of bus service.
