MKs In Israel To Receive A 1,300 Shekel Raise

How much do MKs in Knesset earn monthly? The answer is 41,500 shekels, but it turns out that this sum is not enough for the elected people, and that their wages will soon rise to NIS 42,800.

The added sum that is expected to be added to the salaries of MKs starting next January 2018 is due to salaries linked to the national average wage, which will range from NIS 1,300 to NIS 1,950, with the sum fluctuating based on if a MK heads a committee for example.

The increase in their salary following a NIS 1,000 monthly increase last year, and there were those whose salaries increased by NIS 1,400. In the past two years, the salaries of MKs have increased by 5.5 percent.

As stated, the addition is for all members of the Knesset, and the Cabinet Ministers and the Prime Minister will not receive additional raises because of their positions, and they will enjoy like the rest of the Knesset members. Those who will receive the increment are the chairmen of the committees who are entitled to what is defined as an “extra effort” of NIS 1,500.

Herzog, who remains in the position of chairman of the opposition, is entitled to an additional NIS 5,000, leaving his salary at 47,800, and in January it will reach NIS 49,300, so that in practice he will receive more than the Prime Minister who receives NIS 47,485.

The high salary in the Knesset is given to the Speaker of the Knesset, whose salary is expected to be 50,225, and it will rise to 51,700.
