Israel: Taxes Waved On Over 13 Million Eggs To Combat National Shortage

The Ministry of Agriculture has stepped in and eliminated import tax on 13.2 million eggs towards alleviating the nationwide shortage that exists in Israel.

Experts report that due to the change of season, there are far fewer eggs laid and at current, there is a shortage of about 150 million eggs.

Needless to say, the Health and Agriculture Ministries will strictly supervise the imports to ensure proper health and veterinary standards are maintained.

  1. If there is a shortage of about 150 million eggs, why are import taxes only being waived ion 13.2 million, less than 10% of the shortfall. Unfortunately there is no real competition in Israel. If import taxes were to be abolished, there would never be a shortage of eggs and they would probably be cheaper as well.
