Chabad Woman Released from Military Prison

The young married Chabad woman who was locked up by the IDF before Rosh Hashanah has been released.

MKs Dr. Michael Ben-Ari (Ichud HaLeumi) and Uri Maklev (Yahadut HaTorah) sent a letter to Defense Minister Ehud Barak calling upon him to intervene to have the young woman released before the yomim tovim.

Mrs. Devorah Cohen was arrested about three weeks ago because she failed to take care of filing her IDF status as a teenager, and when she came to address the issue she was taken into custody. After several attempts, a request from the family of the young married lady was sent to IDF Chief of Personnel Major-General Orna Barvibai and he ordered her release from IDF Prison 4.

Hearing of the decision to release her on Thursday, 4 Tishrei, her family was overjoyed and a modest seuda was held in their home to mark the event. She had been sentenced to 50 days imprisonment and Baruch Hashem was released after 20 days.

  1. Why did you have to print her name? Would you have printed her name if she was your sister?
You guys really need to study the laws of lashon hara. You violate them regularly. Perhaps you can give someone parnassa by hiring him to oversee what you print and ensure that you are not oveir the halachos.

  2. To No. 3

This is first and foremost a “NEWS” site that conforms to yiddeshe values. You cannot report a “news” story and leave the names of all the individuals “anonymous”. The editors don’t censor news because it might offend someone or make them look either good or bad. They report the facts and WE decide how to interpret. When they publish opinions, they are generally very good about labeling the article as editorial or opinion.

  3. #3, why would her name be a secret? Is it embarrassing to have been arrested by resha’im? Is it embarrassing for it to be known that years ago one neglected to file some form properly? There are issues with an Eshes Cohen being kidnapped by goyim, and one wouldn’t want that known, but that doesn’t apply here. So what is there to keep private?

  4. Don’t worry, lkwdmama, “Devorah Cohen” is really androgynous! There are probably any number of “Devorah Cohens” out there.
