Chessed in Wartime – Some Southern Residents Found Shelter in Modi’in Illit


Modi’in Illit Mayor Rav Yaakov Gutterman made city services available to many families who fled Hamas rocket fire in southern Israel. The municipality of the chareidi city instructed all municipal departments to make resources available and do whatever possible to assist the families who sought refuge from the perilous situation.

The Matnas community center opened its doors and special programming was offered during afternoon hours to entertain the children from southern municipalities.

The Mifal HaPayis Eshkol Auditorium was converted to a makeshift yeshiva, hosting over 100 talmidim from the Orchot Chaim Yeshiva from Tifrach after the rosh yeshiva, HaGaon HaRav Yeshayahu Kravitz consulted with HaRosh Yeshiva HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita. The gadol hador reportedly instructed the rosh yeshiva to move the yeshiva to Modi’in Illit the weekly BaKehilla reports.

  1. As a resident of Modiin Ilit, I have witnessed the chessed. In addition to all that stated in the article, Ezer Metzion arranged meals for many of these families. Many residents of Modiin Ilit happily hosted whole families in their apartments.

    No nation has the hospitality like the Jews. Right away they open their hearts and places for their brothers. That warms my heart.
