Israel’s Magic Wand – The Response to Hizbullah

Amid realizations that Israel is in the sights of Hamas rockets from the south and Hizbullah from the north, efforts continue to bring the Magic Wand (שרביט קסמים) system to operational status, to join its cousin, the Iron Dome, in protecting Israel from growing missile threats.

Dubbed David’s Sling in the international community, here at home it is called Magic Wand. It is the response to mid-range missiles, the 80-250km (48-150 mile) range rockets that are a part of the Hizbullah arsenal.

Speaking to supporters this week, Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah taunted Israel, praising Hamas’ victory over the “occupiers of Palestine”, adding that while Hamas strained to land a Fajar 5 rocket in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, Hizbullah is armed with tens of thousands of mid-range rockets that will strike “Everywhere in Israel, from Metula to Eilat” Nasrallah stated, warning Israel that if it attempts to strike Hizbullah at any time, the country will endure the wrath of the Hizbullah arsenal.

This test conducted on Sunday 11 Kislev 5773 included for the first time a successful interception by the Stunner Missile of the DSWS (David Sling Weapons System). The test was conducted by Rafael Advanced Defense systems at a test range in the southern part of Israel.

The prime contractor for the integration and development of the David’s Sling Weapon System is Rafael, in conjunction with Raytheon. The system radar is being developed by ELTA Industries and the Battle Management Center by Elbit Systems.
