Three Judges to Hear Lieberman Trial

The president of the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, Justice Shulamit Dotan agreed to a state prosecution request to have three justices assigned to the fraud trial of former Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Dotan will head the panel, which the state feels is required due to the status of the defendant and the possible ramifications in the case. Lieberman is a former deputy prime minister, a former foreign minister, a current MK and current head of the Yisrael Beitenu party. Therefore the prosecution feels that having a number of justices hearing the case instead of one will give additional credibility to the ruling. Mr. Lieberman’s attorneys are not opposed to such a move, confident in the innocence of their client.

MK Lieberman will face a multi-count indictment which includes charges of fraud and breach of trust for his action surrounding an appointment for former Israeli Ambassador to Belarus Ze’ev Ben-Aryeh.
