IDF Commander: Soldiers in Yosh Must Continue Exercising Restraint

gantzIDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz on Tuesday morning, 19 Sivan 5773 responded to requests that he reevaluate the ‘open fire’ orders for soldiers operating throughout Yehuda and Shomron (Yosh) in light of the escalation in firebomb and rock attacks against Jewish residents and security troops.

Gantz explained the policy of restraint must continue. “There is not a single person in Knesset that would support the consequences of a change in opening fire orders, for there would be many dead. This would not be correct, not just from a moral perspective but it might also lead to an escalation of the situation”.

Gantz added “we do not wish to lose control. Soldiers are instructed to remain steadfast but to exercise restraint for acting otherwise is contrary to our interests. It is very easy to change orders but it

would be irresponsible on our part. The current orders permit soldiers to do what has to be done under the circumstances…”

  1. What is not correct from a moral perspective is to put soldiers lives in danger and not allow them to eliminate the threat

  2. Ridiculous and stupid.
Our holy brothers and sisters should not be ‘sitting ducks’ for rocks and other flying objects. Shoot to kill is the proper response.
